Golden Week Road Trip!!!

"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but by doing it". I love this quote and I will try my best to apply it to the road trip jointly organized by me and the other post-grad students for this golden week. In Japan, the "Golden Week" is the informal name given for series of consecutive holidays starting from Showa Day (April 29th), Constitution Memorial Day (May 3rd), Greenery Day (May 4th) and Children's Day (May 5th). Being rigid and extremely hardworking, Japanese rarely took any holidays along the year but during the Golden Week and New Year, everybody will finish their tasks as fast as possible the week before and proceed with the holiday plan they have planned earlier. Some of them like my lab mates chose to visit their families back in the hometown (remind me of our Malaysian 'balek kampung' fiesta where the PLUS highway will be congested from Nilai to Senawang) and some of them will go for a vacation either abroad or locally. As for us, we chose to squeeze our 4 days of holiday into a road trip to Hiroshima, Miyajima and Shikoku Islands.
For this trip, we have a special appearance from Malaysia, Mr. Azizi a.k.a Mon a.k.a xsterquex as our designated driver and he happens to be the soul mate of Mrs. Khuriah a.k.a Mc (a final year doctorate student in Kyoto Pharma Univ) and also my former prep-school prefect of Dorm D when we were in koleq back then. Parking space is very scarce in Japan and as my apartment doesn't provide any parking lots, I had to drive our rented Estima to Kyoto University and park it there (As per advised by a former sweet Kyotorian who have done a road trip up until Hokkaido, 'kaki enjoy but agak arr skema'.."baik u jgn parking situ..bahyerrrr"). After 6, anybody is free to bring in their cars without any registration at the guardhouse. While waiting for the others (Mr. Ashr, Mr. Fird, Mr.Ari, Ms. Nur, Mr. and Mrs. Azizi) to assemble at the meeting point next half an hour, I took this chance to wish everybody happy holiday and to Malaysian, "one day is enough for Labour Day break, continue our task...we have a nation to build...". Please pray for our safe journey to and fro and wait for my next update regarding this road trip later. Sayonara!!!
